Humanities(Major)
Learning content ■ Research on Art and Cultural Heritage
Exploring the "past" through art and cultural assets to decode the symbolism in them.
■ Music
Comparison and analysis of the meaning of music by focusing on its history and theories.
■ Literature
Understanding the world and humanity through literature, intellectually and at multiple cognitive levels.
■ Philosophy / Religious Studies
Exploring existence, cognition, ethics, society, faith and God through the classics from all ages and cultures.
Course characteristics ■ Major system that allows students to design their own learning themselves

In order for students to find what they really want to learn, instead of requiring students to select their intended fields of study at the time of admission, they nurture their basic academic abilities through a wide range of courses during their first and second years, and gradually narrow down their fields of interest.  At the end of their second year, they will decide on the majors (field of study).

【Advantages of the Major System】

①Students can identify what they really want to do as they take courses in fields that intrigue their interest. By learning in a variety of interesting academic areas, students discover the specific fields that they find most captivating. A student might enroll at ICU hoping to focus on interpretation, for example, but later encounter the wonders of history and end up changing his or her major. There are countless examples of how discovering a new field of interest can change students' lives.

②Being able to try out many different academic areas makes it possible for students to be more confident about their choice of a major. For example, if a student who likes physics, but also finds linguistics and international relations interesting, at ICU, he or she could learn what they want to learn without having to sacrifice any of their curiosity. In other words, he or she might study all of their main interests; physics, linguistics, and international relations, and eventually settle on physics as their major with confidence.

③Students can recognize the differences between research areas as they learn independently. While the fields of "Politics" and "Public Policy" might address similar themes,
the only way to understand the differences between the two is to actually study them. Students can choose their majors by weighing their feelings about what exactly they find interesting,
what and how exactly they want to learn.
Employment ICU develop human resources who can be successful in a wide range of fields after graduation.
